Snack Attack Round Up

I’m all for whole foods and making snacks at home that you can take with you on the go. But I get it – some of us are so busy we just want to buy the most convenient granola bar or processed food from the shelf. These are my top prepared, convenient snacks for on the go along with where you can find them. Most of them aren’t smelly or messy (like a boiled egg – my favorite), so you can eat them without making the entire staff upset when they enter the break room. Stock up and enjoy!

  1. Epic Bars – These are like jerky but in bar form. Savory flavors lie beef, turkey, bison, or lamb. I love these post workout for a protein punch. Epic
Where to buy: Whole Foods, MOMs Organic Market, online
  2. Nut butter packets – Artisana and Justins are my favorite brands. Choose coconut, almond, cashew, cacao, or pecan butters.
Where to buy: Most grocery stores, but selection will vary; online
  3. RX bars – for that sweet tooth without artificial sweeteners. I like to eat these on days when I’m super active
    Where to buy: online
  4. Ella’s Kitchen vegetable and fruit packs – bring out your little kid with whole food vegetables and fruit combos. They are in easy squeeze packets and don’t have any added sweeteners or food colorings. Choose combo varieties like broccoli/peas/pears, strawberries and apples, and carrots/ parsnips/apples
Where to buy: Whole foods, MOMs organic, onlineFruit
  5. Larabars – these are popular. Although they aren’t a significant source of protein, they can hold you over for a little bit with the natural fats from the nuts. You will notice they are high in sugar, but this is natural sugar from dates and fruit.
Where to find: most grocery stores
  6. Nuts or homemade trailmix – preferably sprouted or raw; a few of my favorite brands are Totally Nuts (order online), Trader Joe’s RAW nuts (not ones with added oils or premixed varieties), or Primal Pacs (order online)TJnuts
Caution: if fat loss is your goal, don’t over due it. A handful goes a long way. Read ingredients when choosing premixed, packaged nuts. Hint: big brands like Planters and Blue Diamond have a lot of added ingredients other than nuts.
  7. Jerky – preferably grassfed. Some of my go toe are Nick’s Sticks (online or Whole Foods), Primal Pacs (online), or Steve’s Paleo Goods (online or at Whole Foods). If you’re ambitious and have a dehydrator, you can make some yourself and control exactly what goes in it.  A lot of brands have added soy, corn, or sugar, so be careful when checking the ingredients.
